NdFeB grade guide

Neodymium magnet grades are about more than stronger or weaker.

N35, N42, and N52 are often treated like a simple strength ladder. In real sourcing, grade also needs to be checked with size, coating, temperature, magnetization direction, and the way the part is used.

Short answer

A higher number usually means higher maximum energy product, but it does not automatically mean the best choice. N52 may be unnecessary if N35 or N42 already meets the force target and cost target.

For a first quote, tell CIYI the size, pull force target, use, temperature, coating, and quantity. If you do not know the grade, we can discuss a practical starting point.

Temperature letters matter

Letters such as M, H, SH, UH, and EH usually point to higher temperature resistance. They can change cost and availability, so the working temperature should be discussed before sampling.

Grade reference

Common NdFeB grade choices.

This is a sourcing guide, not a final engineering approval sheet. Final grade should be checked against the product design.

Grade groupTypical sourcing useWhat to check
N35-N42General discs, blocks, holders, packaging magnets, and many OEM parts.Size, coating, pull force target, and cost target.
N45-N52Compact designs that need stronger force in less space.Whether the extra force is needed, plus brittleness and handling.
M/H/SH/UH/EH seriesHigher temperature or more demanding assemblies.Working temperature, coating, tolerance, and order quantity.

Quote checklist

What to send if you are not sure about grade.

Many buyers do not know the grade at the first inquiry. That is workable.

Size and shape

  • Disc, block, ring, arc, countersunk, or custom
  • Dimensions and tolerance
  • Drawing if the part is custom

Force and use

  • Pull force target if known
  • Application and contact surface
  • Whether the magnet is hidden or exposed

Environment

  • Working temperature
  • Indoor or outdoor use
  • Corrosion or salt spray concern

Order

  • Sample and bulk quantity
  • Coating and packing request
  • Destination market

Grade FAQ

Common grade questions from buyers.

These answers keep the first discussion practical.

Is N52 always better than N35?

No. N52 is stronger, but it may not be needed. If N35 or N42 works, it can be easier to source and better for cost.

What if I do not know the grade?

Send the size, use, and force target. CIYI can discuss a reasonable grade range before sampling.

Does coating depend on grade?

Coating is a separate choice. Nickel, zinc, epoxy, and other coatings are chosen by surface, corrosion, color, and handling needs.

What do H or SH grades mean?

They usually relate to higher temperature resistance. The exact choice should be checked against working temperature and product design.

Can CIYI quote several grade options?

Yes. If both cost and force matter, send the target use and quantity. We can review practical options.
