Magnetization direction

A magnet quote is not complete until the pole direction is clear.

Two magnets with the same size and material can behave very differently if the magnetization direction is different. If the part goes into an assembly, fixture, motor, sensor, or closure, this detail matters early.

Short answer

Axial magnetization is common for discs and cylinders. Thickness magnetization is common for blocks. Diametral magnetization, multipole magnetization, and custom pole patterns need clearer drawings or samples.

If you are unsure, send the drawing, product photo, or the way the magnet will touch another part.

Why this affects price

Some magnetization directions are standard. Others need different tooling, inspection, or production steps. That can affect MOQ, cost, and lead time.

Common directions

How to describe magnetization direction.

Simple words and a marked drawing are usually enough for the first check.

DirectionCommon shapeWhat to send
AxialDisc, cylinder, ringNorth and south poles on the two flat faces.
ThicknessBlock, square, rectanglePoles on the two large flat faces or another specified face pair.
DiametralDisc, cylinder, ringPoles across the diameter; send a sketch if possible.
Multipole or customMotor parts, sensor parts, special assembliesDrawing, pole count, pole layout, and sample if available.

Quote checklist

What helps us check magnetization quickly.

The goal is to avoid guessing the pole direction.

Part shape

  • Disc, ring, block, arc, or custom shape
  • Size and tolerance
  • Drawing or sample photo

Pole direction

  • Mark N/S on the drawing if known
  • Show the contact face
  • Send old sample if not sure

Application

  • Motor, sensor, holder, toy, closure, or assembly
  • How the magnet is fixed
  • Pull force or detection target

Order

  • Material and grade if known
  • Quantity and packing
  • Reports needed by order

Magnetization FAQ

Common questions before quoting.

These are the questions that usually slow down a magnet quote.

What is axial magnetization?

The magnet is magnetized through its flat faces. It is common for many discs, cylinders, and rings.

What is diametral magnetization?

The poles are across the diameter, not through the flat faces. It should be shown on a drawing or confirmed by sample.

Can CIYI make custom magnetization?

Custom magnetization can be reviewed. The quote depends on material, shape, pole layout, quantity, and tooling needs.

What if I do not know the pole direction?

Send the product photo, assembly drawing, or old sample. We can ask the right follow-up questions before quoting.

Does magnetization affect pull force?

Yes. Size, grade, contact surface, and pole direction all affect the final force result.
